Privacy Policy

Your data stays with you
Cadence is designed with privacy at its core. Your medication schedules, dose history and journey progress are stored locally on your device and synced privately via iCloud to keep your iPhone and Apple Watch in sync. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not operate servers that store your health data. If you choose to connect Apple Health, data is exchanged directly between Cadence and the Health app on your device. It is never sent to us.
Cadence is made by PaperCloud Studios.
What stays on your device
The following data is created and stored locally on your device (and synced to your personal iCloud account if enabled). It is never sent to our servers:
- Medication names, dosages and schedules
- Dose history and adherence data
- Journal entries including mood, energy, symptoms, notes and behaviour tags
- Post-dose mood ratings and behaviour tags (e.g. taken with food, exercise, alcohol, stress)
- Health insights, correlations and scores generated from your data
- Adherence reports
What we collect
We collect minimal, non-identifiable data to improve the app experience:
- Anonymous usage analytics (e.g. which features are used most frequently)
- Crash reports and performance data
- Device type and operating system version
This data cannot be linked back to you or your health information.
What we never receive on our servers
- Medication names, dosages or schedules
- Dose history or adherence data
- Health conditions or personal medical information
- Your name, email or contact details (unless you contact us directly)
- We never transmit Apple Health data to our servers
Apple Health integration
Cadence offers an optional integration with Apple Health. This feature is entirely opt-in and can be enabled or disabled at any time in Settings.
What we read from Apple Health
- Heart rate
- Resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability (HRV)
- Blood pressure (systolic and diastolic)
- Respiratory rate
- Blood oxygen saturation (SpO2)
- Weight
- Blood glucose
- Step count
- Sleep analysis
This data is displayed in the Insights tab alongside your medication adherence to help you spot trends. It is read on-device and never transmitted to our servers.
What we write to Apple Health
- Symptom data from journal entries (e.g. headache, nausea, fatigue)
- Mood data from journal entries
This data is written directly to the Health app on your device. We do not access, sell or share any Apple Health data with third parties, advertising networks or data brokers. Apple Health data is never used for advertising or marketing purposes.
Caregiver share
Cadence allows you to generate a shareable adherence report containing medication names and on-time, late, missed and upcoming dose status. The report is generated on-device and shared at your discretion using your device's share sheet (e.g. Messages, Mail). Cadence does not control or store anything you share once it leaves the app.
Location data (geo-fence reminders)
Cadence offers an optional geo-fence reminder feature that triggers reminders when you arrive at or leave saved locations (e.g. home, work). This feature is opt-in. It uses iOS location services with your explicit permission. Location data is processed on-device and never transmitted to our servers. You can disable geo-fence reminders at any time in Settings or in iOS Privacy.
Camera (label scanning)
Cadence offers an optional label-scanning feature. Camera access is requested when you tap "Scan Prescription Label". OCR runs locally using iOS's built-in Vision framework. Images are not stored or transmitted, and no scanned image leaves your device.
Smart Timing
Cadence's Smart Timing engine adapts notification times based on when you actually take your doses. All processing happens on-device. Your behavioural patterns never leave your phone and are not transmitted to our servers.
Drug interaction data
Interaction checks are performed using a database bundled within the app. Your medication list is never sent to an external server for this purpose.
Third-party services
We may use third-party services for anonymous analytics and crash reporting. These services receive only non-identifiable technical data and are bound by their own privacy policies.
Data deletion
You can delete all your data at any time from within the app (Settings > Privacy > Delete All Data). This removes all medications, dose history and settings from your device. Deleting the app also removes all local data. Data synced to iCloud can be managed through your iCloud settings. There is nothing for us to delete on our end because we do not store your data on our servers.
Your rights
Australian residents: This policy complies with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You have the right to access and correct your personal information. Since your data is stored on your device and iCloud, you exercise these rights directly through your device settings.
California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, request its deletion and opt out of the sale of personal information. Cadence does not sell your personal information.
European Economic Area residents (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Since Cadence stores data on your device and iCloud, you exercise these rights directly through your device and iCloud settings.
Because Cadence does not maintain user accounts or store your health data on our servers, most data rights are exercised directly on your device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Cadence after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
